Charlie Sayers · Holbeton, UK“Smeaton’s Tower served as the 3rd Eddystone Lighthouse from 1759 to 1852, marking the reef off England’s south-west coast. After the sea undermined its foundations, it was dismantled and rebuilt on Plymouth Hoe, becoming a city symbol. I reflect this journey by fragmenting and rearranging the tower to suggest disruption and reconstruction. The work considers how relocation can alter purpose and identity while enabling renewal. The flat emulsion background strengthens the trompe-l’œil effect.”
